Jyoti Narang Takes Helm as Heidelberg Cement Chairperson in Landmark Appointment

In a significant leadership shakeup, the Directors’ Institute – World Council Of Directors, part of the prestigious World Development Corporation (WDC), has announced the elevation of Ms. Jyoti Narang to the position of Chairperson at Heidelberg Cement. This move is seen as a testament to the company’s dedication to fostering robust governance and steering the company towards new heights of success and innovation.


Heidelberg Cement, a titan in the global cement industry, has been a notable player in the Indian market since 2006 following its acquisition spree which included erstwhile Mysore Cement and Cochin Cement, along with a joint venture with Indorama Cement. The subsequent restructuring and expansion efforts significantly boosted its installed capacity in India from 2.3 million tonnes to an impressive 5.5 million tonnes. The company’s growth trajectory soared following the acquisition of Italcementi in 2016, effectively doubling its footprint in India. Today, Heidelberg Cement boasts a formidable installed capacity of about 14 million tonnes across the country, with its products being widely recognized and preferred by customers in 12 states.


Mr. Zeeshaan Pathan, Group Managing Director of the World Development Corporation, expressed his enthusiasm about Ms. Narang's appointment, highlighting her remarkable leadership qualities and visionary strategic planning as key drivers for impending organizational growth. “Jyoti Narang’s appointment marks a new chapter in Heidelberg Cement’s journey, emphasizing our commitment to driving innovation and embracing diversity at the leadership level,” he remarked.


Ms. Narang, 63, brings to the table a wealth of experience and academic prowess, holding a BA in Economics (Honours) from Lady Shriram College for Women, an MBA in Finance from the University of Delhi, and advanced executive education credentials from globally renowned institutions such as Harvard Business School, IMD Lausanne, and Wharton University of Pennsylvania. Her diverse background and comprehensive understanding of global market dynamics are expected to bolster Heidelberg Cement’s strategic initiatives, aiming at sustainable growth and long-term profitability.


The Directors’ Institute, known for championing corporate governance excellence, expressed its pride in facilitating Ms. Narang’s appointment. The organization looks forward to her playing a pivotal role in shaping the industry's future, with a keen focus on innovation and leadership diversity.
